Pain perception and uncertainty
Testing people’s perceptions and experiences of pain.
It is being carried out by a team based at Salford Care Organisation (part of the Northern Care Alliance).
Criteria
- Aged 18+
- Be right-handed
- Not currently taking any medications that might influence brain function, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, and analgesics for chronic pain.
- Have normal or corrected vision
- No history of Raynaud’s phenomenon.
Location
- Clinical Sciences Building at Salford Royal
Involves
- One clinic appointment lasting approximately 2 hours, where you will be asked to rate different pain stimuli(*), as well as completing a psychological questionnaire.
Participants will receive £80.
(*) Brief pain sensations will be administered through a small electrode attached to your hand by a trained researcher. It is a non-invasive procedure. Participants will decide the pain levels they receive at the beginning of the study.
