IRONMAN: looking at whether treating iron deficiency in people with heart failure can prevent being admitted to hospital for heart failure and improve overall outcomes.


  • Diagnosed with heart failure (your heart is not pumping blood as well as it should)
  • Current or previous iron deficiency
  • Not receiving iron injections


multiple sites across Greater Manchester


  • Attending a clinic appointment every four month for about two years. Each appointment will last approximately one hour
  • A review of your medical history, medications and lifestyle
  • Tests including weight and height; blood tests and an electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Randomly being chosen to receive either iron injections or continue with your usual treatment
