GSK207972: A study looking at a new injectable medication to treat moderate to severe asthma with allergic fungal airway disease

This study is looking at whether a new injectable medication can treat moderate to severe asthma with allergic fungal airway disease.

Criteria

  • Be diagnosed with moderate to severe asthma
  • Are sensitised to specific types of fungi
  • be a current non smoker and not smoked in the past six months
  • Had at least one severe exacerbation of asthma in the past year that required at least three days of oral (tablets) steroid treatment
  • must have attended clinic at UHSM (Wythenshawe)  within the last 5 years

Involves

 

  • Being randomly chosen to receive either the new treatment or a placebo
  • Attending 9 clinic visits over 16 weeks and a follow-up visit 12 weeks after the main part of the study.
  • Clinic visits will include having blood and sputum samples taken, electrocardiograms (ECG) and breathing tests. You will also be asked to complete questionnaires about your symptoms.
