The SuMMiT-D study
The SuMMiT-D study aims to develop and test a tool to help people with type 2 diabetes to take their tablet medication as prescribed and manage their diabetes. To ensure what we are developing is acceptable, it is really important we get the views of people with type 2 diabetes. Research for the Future, and specifically their Help BEAT Diabetes volunteers, was the ideal way for us to recruit people. First, we recruited for an online survey where we gathered opinions from people with type 2 diabetes about the text messages we will send through the tool. Next, after we had revised the messages, we recruited a number of people to try out the tool at home. We received expressions of interest from a variety of people with type 2 diabetes spread right across England. I have been surprised at how happy people have been to help and we have got some great information to feed back into the development.
The communication with the Research for the Future team has been fantastic, and we were able to recruit our target number of participants quickly and efficiently. I have already recommended Research for the Future to colleagues and will continue to do so. It is a great resource to have.
